At least a couple of times a year, some of the women in my department, not only feel the need to go on a diet but decide that everyone else should join in. This eventually led to a diet contest, where everyone who was going on a diet would put in $5.00, they would have a weigh in, and whoever lost the most by a certain date would win the loot.
Everyone in the contest was enjoying the competition. They shared recipes and tips and even took turns bringing healthy dishes to share at lunch. Then someone in another department got wind of the contest and complained to one of their supervisors that their department had not been invited to join the contest. This complaint of course went along the chain of command straight to the top. Meetings were held and the directive was issued, contests would be forbidden in the office unless all departments were included. So the diet competition was ended, and the money returned to the participants.
A new diet competition was formed and all the departments were notified, and everyone was invited to participate. There were very few employees that were not in the contest. Everyone had hopes of not only shedding a few pounds, but of winning the now substantial cash prize. The same person who had complained about not being included in the contest previously, now did not want to participate in this new diet competition and complained that no one was buying the candy she was trying to sell for her son's school fundraiser. Of course she is the reason that almost the entire office is now on a diet. It just goes to show you that some people you just can't make happy, no matter what you do.
I personally do not join the diet competion, I have no desire to share my weight with the whole office, but I praise the ones that do. This years contest is still going on, and I will keep you informed of the results.
